DURHAM, N.C. – Phononic, a global leader in cooling and heating technology, today announced mass production of its new Phononic F200 Merchandising Freezer and Phononic C200 Merchandising Refrigerator. Powered by sustainable solid-state technology that replaces loud, bulky compressors, its compact countertop design and near-silent operation enables multiple placement opportunities in a retail setting – from checkout counters to mid-aisle and endcap displays. The products are now available for purchase following trials with a variety of partners in the U.S., Europe and Australia.
The Phononic F200 freezer and Phononic C200 refrigerator enable retailers to completely reimagine how and where fresh and frozen foods are made available to customers, significantly increasing the value of their offerings to busy, health-conscious shoppers. Grocers and big box retailers can leverage this technology to redesign in-store layouts, improve product placement and offer a wider variety of fresh, seasonal foods throughout the store. Similarly, convenience stores and quick-serve restaurants can capitalize on shopper impulse buys by offering more popular grab-and-go items, like ice cream, directly at the point-of-sale.

“Freedom of placement is a game-changer for food retailers, and Phononic’s F200 freezer and C200 refrigerator present an ideal way to offer the products consumers demand in the locations they prefer,” said Dana Krug, VP and GM of Food and Beverage at Phononic. “Our customers trialing this technology have seen an increase in sales, and due to a design that eliminates moving parts, maintenance and service costs are lower. They are quickly realizing the potential for this new concept, and we are excited to scale production to now offer both products to grocery stores, convenience stores, retailers and restaurants.”
The Phononic F200 freezer and Phononic C200 refrigerator radically alter the sustainability footprint for freezers and refrigerators used in the Food & Beverage industry. Phononic’s semiconductor technology uses only low-pressure CO2 and water to cool and freeze, rather than harmful refrigerants found in compressor-based incumbents.
Phononic is reimagining cooling and heating in ways never thought possible. Its breakthrough solid-state technology is transforming industries and creating new markets with innovative and sustainable solutions that disrupt antiquated business models and incumbent technologies. Phononic is the critical element of innovation needed to radically change what it means to be efficient, effective and sustainable, enabling solutions that combat global warming and use up to 40 percent less energy.
Just as LEDs displaced the lightbulb, Phononic’s Thermal Engine™ and integrated systems design are rendering compressors and other traditional technologies obsolete — allowing designers, engineers and industry leaders to reimagine products that cool and heat.
As the optoelectronics industry continues to see growth and anticipates more new technologies to be unveiled in the coming year, we can expect the same for optical communications.
