From the time a vaccine is manufactured to the time it is administered to a patient, it needs to be stored properly. Safe vaccine storage is very important to making sure that the vaccine works effectively. If a vaccine isn't stored correctly, it can make entire communities more prone to preventable diseases.
Guidelines for Vaccine Storage
Proper vaccine storage needs to be maintained throughout the entire cold chain. Vaccines can either be refrigerated or frozen. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the cold chain is a temperature-controlled environment used to keep vaccines in the best condition for patients. Manufacturers, distributors and healthcare providers all have a responsibility to keep vaccines stored safely in a medical refrigerator. A reliable vaccine refrigerator and temperature monitoring equipment are needed throughout the cold chain.
Exposure to adverse temperatures or conditions can destroy a vaccine. The CDC recommends using a vaccine refrigerator with a safe, reliable power source. A well-calibrated temperature monitoring device should also be used. Refrigerated vaccines should be stored between 2°C (36°F) and 8°C (46°F). A temperature of 5°C (40°F) for vaccine storage is ideal. The CDC also recommends attaching labels to shelves and containers so each vaccine can be identified.
To freeze vaccines, store them in a medical grade freezer. Frozen vaccines should always be stored between -50°C (-58°F) and -15°C (+5°F). Just like refrigerated vaccines, they should be kept in their original packaging and properly labeled.
Phononic Refrigerators for Vaccine Storage
Phononic's solid state technology is perfect for safe vaccine storage. Our solid state medical grade refrigerators have excellent temperature uniformity and stability for keeping vaccines safe.
With a Phononic refrigerator or freezer, you won't have to worry about inefficient cooling or sudden changes in temperature. Our technology delivers unparalleled temperature stability and optimum temperature recovery after door openings, so vaccines aren't exposed to warm temperatures. Our refrigerators also guard against freeze zones, which can be dangerous for vaccines. To monitor temperatures, our fridges log data automatically and alert you when they are out of range. Each Phononic vaccine refrigerator meets USP <800> cleanroom guidelines as well.
