Pharmacy Refrigerators from Phononic

A pharmacy refrigerator must meet the standards required to safely store sensitive drugs and vaccines. Pharmacies are responsible for preparing and dispensing drugs to patients. They may also store and administer vaccines. Vaccines and certain medications need to be kept at the appropriate temperature until they are delivered to the patient, so pharmacies use medical refrigerators to store them at the right temperature. Like any other medical refrigerator, a pharmacy refrigerator needs to meet certain temperature control requirements.

Pharmacy Refrigerator Requirements

Because the products stored inside a pharmacy refrigerator are so critical, it's important that the fridge has temperature stability and uniformity. Vaccines and other drugs need to be stored at the right temperature from the time they are manufactured until the moment they are given to patients. This distribution path is referred to as the cold chain. Any disruptions to the cold chain can destroy the drugs or vaccines, putting patient safety and public health at risk.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that vaccines are stored within a range of 36ºF to 46ºF (2ºC to 8ºC), with a target temperature of 40ºF (4.4ºC). Any medical fridge needs to keep vaccines stored within this range, without ever getting too hot or too cold. The temperature should be uniform throughout the fridge to avoid accidental freeze zones or hot spots. The CDC also recommends that temperatures are monitored and recorded daily, helping pharmacy staff ensure that all medications are always stored safely. Pharmacy refrigerators should also be equipped with an out-of-range alarm system and a back-up power source.

Pharmacy Refrigerators from Phononic

Phononic's solid state medical grade refrigerators offer excellent performance and reliability for safe storage of drugs and vaccines. They exceed CDC temperature requirements, oscillating within just 0.5ºC of the target temperature. Our medical refrigerators also feature automatic data logging and monitor door openings to trigger an instant thermal response for fast temperature recovery.

Compared with compressor-based alternatives, a Phononic pharmacy fridge delivers up to 10X better temperature stability throughout the entire cabinet, eliminating dangerous freeze zones and hot spots. Our undercounter refrigerator design makes it easy for pharmacies and other labs to prioritize space in crowded labs. Phononic medical refrigerators also meet USP <800> guidelines for cleanrooms with no additional renovations or special ventilation required.
